Happy Hour Quarantini Hack


We all know the saying "don't cry over spilled milk" but for me nothing brings a tear to my eye like the thought of tossing fruit that we didn't get a chance to eat before it goes bad. Quarantine life has definitely brought out some of the everyday joys of what used to feel like chores. The biggest one for me is grocery shopping. I used to dread grocery shopping. It always took forever especially with two boys who seemed to need to eat the entire store before checkout. Now, I miss the ability to pick fruits and veggies at varying stages of ripeness to last us through the week. All of the sudden relinquishing this control that was a laborious chore now feels like a momentous privilege. However, I do still have the privilege of getting creative and utilizing the wonderful gifts I have been afforded. This thrifty quarantine hack not only minimizes waste, but it also elevates your happy hour. I've been taking fruit that is on it's way out, juicing it, and freezing it in ice cube trays to add a little something extra to our drinks.


What you'll need:

-fruit of your liking

-juicer/blender

-ice cube tray

-gin

-club soda


1. Juice your fruit - we were given this amazing juicer as a wedding which I use very regularly, but if you don't have a juicer, you can blend your fruit and run it through a mesh sieve to get rid of any pulp

2. Pour juice in an ice cube tray and freeze

3. Once solidified, add juice cubes to a glass, pour one shot of gin over them, and add club soda to your desired taste
